What message does the word “freedom” hold for you?
I did a check in with my body the other day and the word “freedom” dropped in to my consciousness like and energetic bomb. It was almost like someone was standing next to me screaming it in my ear. It was loud and clear. It was a message I could not ignore. I had this immediate feeling of being in an energetic prison – swirling thoughts, self- judgements and doubts pressing in on all sides of me. It lead me to want to explore a way out of my self imposed constriction.
The following is a list of things that came to the surface as I explored this feeling further. What would it feel like to feel free and expansive within myself?
What does freedom mean to me? The short list is as follows:
……expansion into the fullest most authentic version of myself – free to be fully and completely ME!
……living from MY self defined inner wisdom and truth.
……releasing myself from all forms of restriction or repression (whether self imposed, ancestral or cultural).
……seeking the Divine in everything I do – following my desire to live life as a devotional prayer to myself, my fellow humans and to Source.
……live from a place of empowerment, safety and trust, rather than fear and lack.
All of that from one word. (And this is just the highlight reel!)
It became clear that these are my deep soul truths. The ideals by which I want to navigate my daily life. Make no mistake. I forget. I mess up. All. The. Time!!! Especially with those I love the most. I am far from perfect. But the more awareness I bring to my own internal landscape, the more I can show up from my heart and let go of everything that was never really mine to begin with. This creates more space and “freedom” – more bandwidth to live from a place of love and connection.
Some questions to think about as you explore your own relationship to “freedom” could be:
What is MY truth? Is it truly mine or is it someone else’s?
Where in my life do I feel contained, disconnected or restricted?
Where in my life do I feel expansive, connected and free?
In what area’s am I holding myself back and why?
What do I love to do? What lights me up? Where do I truly shine?
Are my thoughts and actions leading me towards or away from the freedom I seek?
Where do I hold fear? And where do I feel safe?
Do I seek internal authenticity more than external approval?
Find a quiet space to sit undisturbed for a few moments and feel in to these questions with your heart. There are no right or wrong answers. Just your truth. Get curious and stay open minded about where your internal dialogue comes from. Use this exercise to uncover that which has been hidden and to begin to gather up the pieces of yourself that have long been forgotten. Allow yourself the gift of remembering who you truly are. From my heart to yours: you already have all the answers you need – right inside of you – in the silent strength within.
