It’s a brand new year and I’ve been using the energy of the New Year portal to get really intentional about how I want to feel in the coming year, and what actions I can take to set the tone for the years to come. Knowing that the seeds of intention I plant now will lay the foundation for what becomes possible for me in the future.
FOUNDATION is a key theme that comes up as I look back on the path my life has taken over the last few years. I realize that I was always trying to skip 10 steps ahead to my perceived goals, but that I never took the time to lay a solid foundation to sustain success. I’ve been so focused on trying to run that I forgot I had to learn to walk first. This made everything unnecessarily hard, and was a cycle that left me feeling defeated, overwhelmed, and depleted.
It wasn’t until I learned to lay a sustainable foundation for my life.that I was able to expand & grow from a place of ease and flow. For me this looked like creating space, recommitting to some foundational health habits (…hello sleep!), and establishing routines based on my own personal rhythms and the rhythms of nature.
I’ve experienced so much resistance when it comes to committing to basic habits such as these – always wanting to brush them aside in favor of more “exciting” achievements – that I sometimes missed the point completely. Metaphorically speaking, I kept trying to “build a house” on a shoddy foundation; which kept leading to all of my energy and effort being spent in the basement repairing the cracks and plugging the leaks just to keep my “house” standing. This left me with no time to enjoy all the beautiful rooms waiting for me upstairs. Building a strong foundation has helped me to ground in the present and created a sense of support that continues to carry me through the inevitable ebb and flow of life. It was a critical first step in creating a life I love and one in which I could thrive rather than just survive. My day to day life now feels way more fulfilling and sustaining; and I feel I have the resources (both internal and external) to nourish and support my dreams and goals.
How do you want to feel in this coming year? And what are some foundational things you can do to support this vision? What is one step you can take today to set you up for future success?
If you’re interested in working with me on creating your own unique vision for the year ahead – I’d be happy to help you get clarity on what foundational habits and practices feel aligned for you.
